From its early beginnings in 1936, the City of Adelaide Band has undergone many name changes. From the City of Adelaide Municipal Band to it's present name 'The City of Adelaide Concert Band'. Initially formed as a brass band, it was decided in May of 1999 to change to a concert band format to widen the scope of the band. It has performed at many locations around Adelaide and continues to do so. In 1959 for instance they performed as the 'Municipal Band' at The Advertisers 'Sound Shell' in Elder Park. One of the most unusual practice venues the band had was the rooms under the Rotunda in Elder Park. The present day band practice at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church (152 Wakefield Street), on Thursday evenings between 7:30-9:30pm. Players of all ages and abilities are most welcome.
